Now I suppose this could be seen as a late Valentines post, but the intended purpose is just to tell you bit about my most recent trip. So last week my boyfriend and I headed off to Paris for a few days as a little break away. We booked the trip in October time and because of my job it just happened to be over Valentines day. When I say this I do mean it – I’m not the biggest fan of valentines day and soppy things but nevertheless James had never been to Paris and I had never been to Disneyland so we took the opportunity and off we went!
This all started when James said that we should go on a trip in the February half term – and that he would surprise me with where. So obviously the automatic ‘my boyfriend forgets most things and books everything late which costs so much more’ area of my brain got straight on to reserving a few hotel rooms in different city locations. I passed on this information to him as well as letting him know the best places to book travel arrangements and that was the plan started.
In terms of accommodation I’ve used Airbnb a few times and especially loved it whilst in Bali last year, but this time we used booking.com – my go to. Using the site meant I was able to reserve a few rooms in different places and leave the choosing to James. We ended up staying in the Best Western Premier Kapital Opera which in my opinion was amazing. The interiors of the hotel were stunning and although a chain it was more like a little boutique hotel , with everything so close by! It cost under £300 for 3 nights meaning by booking in October we saved at least £200! Not to mention that by using booking.com it added to rewards on my account.
We ended up getting the Eurostar as all in all it ended up both cheaper and easier. As we both had to get trains to wherever we would be travelling from, we thought we may as well cut out the pre-flight wait as well as take advantage of the reduced ‘youth’ prices (those age 12 – 25).
Upon arriving we visited all the classic Parisian sights including the Notre Dame, which I hadn’t actually seen the inside of before – it is stunning! We used the Metro a fair few times but for the majority of the trip we walked. We tend to like taking in our surroundings and have done on our trips together so far. The last time I was in Paris it was such a quick stop that I didn’t have time to see or appreciate anything properly and this time everything was just so relaxed and enjoyable.
Finally the time has come in my life where I can say I’VE BEEN TO DISNEYLAND!!! I’m not a complete Disney fanatic but the reality of actually being there, somewhere so happy – honestly just put a smile on on my face for the whole day.
I may be wrong, and others may have searched a lot harder than me – but I’m pretty sure that Paris is one of those places where the veggie option tends to be a margarita pizza unless you’re paying a bomb for a fancy stuffed mushroom (my worst nightmare). Luckily I really don’t mind a limited veggie choice and food doesn’t actually tend to be a priority when I’m travelling. However it is a definite priority for James, he eats a lot. like loads. One point to mention in terms of food and drink is definitely the hot chocolate and macarons in Ladureé – I’ve never had anything like it. I don’t drink tea or coffee so I’m a huge hot chocolate fan and this was genuinely like drinking a teacup from Willy Wonka’s chocolate river – and of course the macarons were to die for. Also a little tip for a sweet treat fix – the macarons in McCafe are actually delicious and under £5 for 6.
I have to say that it was just so lovely to be able to spend more than 24 hours with James. Sometimes we find it hard not to be lazy and just cuddle up on the sofa to chill because we haven’t seen each other in so long, but this was just so easy to be together but still do so much around the city. Also I thought I’d mention that I actually used my camera – which I bought last month – to film a lot of our trip. It felt really easy to document everything and really funny at times for us, so I was thinking maybe I should test myself to see if I could edit the footage and post on youtube. Who Knows!
I hope you enjoyed a little snippet of my trip, hopefully there will be more to book soon…
